The Richard III Society Bursary 2018

Postgraduate students wishing to present papers at the 2018 Fifteenth Century Conference are invited to apply to the Richard III Society for a £250 bursary. The Society was established in 1924 in the belief that many features of the traditional accounts of the character and career of Richard III are neither supported by sufficient evidence nor reasonably tenable. It aims to promote, in every possible way, research into the life and times of Richard III, and to secure a reassessment of the material relating to this period, and of the role of this monarch in English history. Any topic of relevance to these research interests (not necessarily focussed on Richard III himself) may be considered.

Applicants should submit a 250-300 word abstract of their proposed paper, along with an explanation of how this fits with the Richard III Society’s aims, to research_officer@richardiii.net. Applications should include the candidate’s full name, email address, PhD topic and university affiliation. All applications will be judged by the Society’s Research Committee. Up to two bursaries may be awarded. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 25th April and the successful candidate(s) will be notified as soon as possible after the conference programme has been decided. The names and topics of the successful candidate(s) will be publicised in The Ricardian Bulletin (the Society’s quarterly magazine) and on the Research Committee blog (riiiresearch.blogspot.co.uk).
